He or she should remain in contact with ISP in case they are not happy with the with the broadband speeds they receive. He also advised that a ‘grace period’ is offered by all the broadband providers for allowing customers to call off their contract if case they are not happy with the connection speeds.

Mobile Broadband: Is it time to change over?

Freedom to choose Internet lies in your hands

The mobile broadband became an overnight success when it hit UK for the first time. This was the time when people felt they were truly connected. As the time progressed, development in terms of speed and reliability took place. It lead to the perception that people started thinking of getting rid of their landline net access. On one hand, the industry experts tried to assure that the mobile broadband is not the replacement of fixed line access but people were puzzled that whether to replace landline Internet with mobile Internet.

How does the mobile broadband function?

The user connects itself to similar wireless data network to there phone. Sometimes it is confused with Wifi but there is a wide difference between the two. In wireless system, it is the wireless router that makes it possible to access Internet in the close vicinity. It actually works on the fixed line internet that has been passed through a wireless router. The mobile broadband providers provide USB dongle which comes in USB stick which can be plugged and Internet can be accessed from anywhere. The speed is dependent on the package of the broadband. Although speed is a matter of concern while choosing broadband but priority to bandwidth is also given which describes how much data is travelling through the network. Some broadband providers provide 20-40 gigabytes of data transfer which is reasonably good for those users who have limited usage of few hours daily but will not probably serve the purpose of those who might be spending most of their life in front of Internet.

Who are mobile broadband providers?

The mobile broadband providers include O2, Vodafone, T mobile etc. There are obvious differences between the products and services of the broadband providers. For instance length of the contract may vary. The price of the hardware seems to be different. Sometimes the providers are so kind as they send the hardware free. The 3G network determines the strength of the network in the area.

When and why should you switch from one mobile broadband to others?

Times have changed but accessing Internet through fixed line remains most sought after option as it offers superior value for money but that does not mean that no one is opting for mobile broadband as nowadays people travel extensively and they need Internet while on the move. Strong segment of consumers is seen in form of students as they can not remain at one single place for too long. Moreover they do not want to be held up in a contract for too long

It could be 2012 ahead of the UK introduces 4G mobile broadband

Might be possible that the UK delay in the delivery of the technology that will announce fourth generation (4G) mobile broadband till as late as 2012. Although the technology is presently being developed.

4G mobile broadband technology has been started to run by Europe, China and the US. According to a popular IT website, technology like Long Term Evolution or WiMAX has put these countries former to the UK.

It has also suggested that till O2 and Vodafone broadband service provider has finalised to redistribute sections of their 900MHz spectrum bandwidth the UK will be capable to participate in the present plans of next generation services. It is presently figuring an an will continue to fell behind other nations which are already in the process of using innovative technology.

Among different brands, only Ericsson is one such brand that has suggested that its personal mobile phone broadband technology will not be rolled out till 2012. The reason for this is the unexpected nature of spectrum reallocation till the coming year.

It would also be not likely for LTE to be capable to touch its topmost throughput speeds of 150Mbps. It is because it presently believe on an infrastructure that has already been applied so it would have to utilise aged technology. This was explained by Ericsson, who are the laptop and netbook mobile broadband components developer all over the world.

John Cunliffe, the chief technology officer for Ericsson said that presently the maximum speed of 3.6Mbps is available which is being offered by LTE 4G technology. This speed will increase by ten times faster mobile broadband connection for consumers in coming days.

The 800MHz spectrum band has now been declared to be kept aside to be brought in use by the coming generation mobile broadband services. This was declared according to the earlier announcement that was offered by the telecommunications regulator, Ofcom, which should approve technologies like LTE to catch up, though gradually, with the remaining part of the world.
